burn that sculpted rose candle

The following writing was sent to me in an e-mail today, so it may be something you've already read. Even if you have, it's worth reading again. I think Erma gave us a lot to reflect upon and I encourage you to do just that.

It sure made me think. Where in my life am I letting the busyness get in the way of just enjoying the moment? What are my priorities? I want my priorities to be more about people and less about things and schedules.

IF I HAD MY LIFE TO LIVE OVER - by Erma Bombeck
(Written after she found out she was dying from cancer)

I would have gone to bed when I was sick instead of pretending the earth would go into a holding pattern if I weren't there for the day.

I would have burned the pink candle sculpted like a rose before it melted in storage.

I would have talked less and listened more.

I would have invited friends over to dinner even if the carpet was stained, or the sofa faded.

I would have eaten the popcorn in the 'good' living room and worried much less about the dirt when someone wanted to light a fire in the fireplace.

I would have taken the time to listen to my grandfather ramble about his youth.

I would have shared more of the responsibility carried by my husband.

I would never have insisted the car windows be rolled up on a summer day because my hair had just been teased and sprayed.

I would have sat on the lawn! With my grass stains.

I would have cried and laughed less while watching television and more while watching life.

I would never have bought anything just because it was practical, wouldn't show soil, or was guaranteed to last a lifetime.

Instead of wishing away nine months of pregnancy, I'd have cherished every moment and realized that the wonderment growing inside me was the only chance in life to assist God in a miracle.

When my kids kissed me impetuously, I would never have said, 'Later. Now go get washed up for dinner.'

There would have been more 'I love you's'; more 'I'm sorry's.'

But mostly, given another shot at life, I would seize every minute...look at it and really see it.. live it and never give it back. STOP SWEATING THE SMALL STUFF!!! Don't worry about who doesn't like you, who has more, or who's doing what. Instead; let's cherish the relationships we have with those who do love us. Let's think about what God HAS blessed us with, and what we are doing each day to promote ourselves mentally, physically, and emotionally. I hope you have a blessed day.

The e-mail then said to pass this on to other women in celebration of Beautiful Women's Month. Has anyone heard of Beautiful Women's Month? I hadn't. I guess I should go Go*gle that and see what shows up.

One last thing... thanks to all of you who left such encouraging words to me on my last post. You lifted my spirits and I appreciate you all. Thank you.

What a great reminder, sometimes it is hard to remember all that.

No never heard of the Beautiful Woman Day.

Great reminder. It is so important to live in TODAY. Yesterday is history and we know not what tomorrow brings but God gives us a new day every 24 hours!

Life is not always that easy, but we keep plugging along in hopes of being all that God has called us to be.

I hope your day is better today. I smiled at your comment about shopping with your daughter. I so wish I could go back to the days of Old Navy. I think it's a good thing my daughter has a mom who hates shopping or we would be totally broke :)

I like today's link - I want to go back and take the test when I get a chance!!

I had never seen this before. I choked up about the pregnancy. Oh I had such difficult pregnancies, that I did not appreciate the miracle. Thank you for posting this.

Erma certainly had that right!! I'm getting better at recognizing that each moment is precious and not just rushing through them. It's when I forget this that I start getting anxious and impatient.

Now, I do still prefer the windows being up. Too much noise interference if someone is talking and my hair has enough trouble without the wind effect. I'm wanting to travel by motorcycle one day, still trying to figure out how Not TO GET helmet hair. Any suggestions?? ;)

I've never heard of Beautiful Woman Month either!

I've read that poem before and keep a copy in my file. It's "right on."
