first kiss or first car?

Which of the two do you have stronger memories of - your first car or your
first kiss?

Regis Philbin asked this question to Kelly Ripa yesterday on their show. I decided to post and answer this question because some day I hope my grandchildren and great-grandchildren will read my posts in this blog. And by what they read, they will come to know who I am and what my life was like.

So, to answer this question... I would have to say that I have stronger memories about my first kiss - but I'll tell you about my first car, too.

My first kiss came right after I entered ninth grade from a boy name Keith L*** (who knows who might be reading this). He was friends with one of my good friend's brother. I actually thought my friend's brother and all of his friends were cute. Hmmm... I think I was a little boy crazy. Anyways, there was an obvious mutual attraction.

I don't think I'll give you all the details (my father reads this - hi dad!), but tell you that it came swiftly and unexpectedly. But it wasn't just a peck - it was long enough to have my head spinning and my heart pounding.

What I also remember is that right after it happened, my mom picked me up for soccer practice and I felt like I was in a daze, like I was floating on air. It was hard for me to concentrate on pre-game drills or hustling for the ball during a scrimmage game. But guess what!? I scored two goals in that scrimmage. I had never scored a goal before, either in a scrimmage or real game. Like I said, I was floating :D

My first car - a red 1971 Chevy Nova. I paid $500 for it in 1976. It had obvious problems and didn't last long. But that didn't matter. It was all mine and it represented freedom and adulthood. That's about all I needed at that time.

I think about my first car much more but I do remember the first kiss well.

The first car was a red w/ black vinyl top '66 Mustang. I got it in 1986 or 87. It had no air conditioning and I had eighties hair. I loved it in the winter and sweltered in it during the summer.

The first kiss was with a boy who had done alot of kissing. Not someone special to me but I was glad to FINALLY get kissed (I was the last of my friends at 15 years old). It was good, but he didn't teach me a thing. Hubby handled that for me! Jennifer

HA! Since my first kiss was with a guy I want to totally forget about...I am going to say I have better memories of my first car.

Definitely my first car. I don't even remember who I had my first kiss with - how sad!

But that car, *sigh*, a '72 silver Monte Carlo that looked hot but didn't run all that well.

My first car! It's a European car called Opel. I don't think they even have it here in the States. It's this Greenish-Blue car. We had a lot of fun trip in that car.

Cute stories and remembrances. Thanks for sharing. I agree, I am so happy to use this blog to leave a history that my children and grandchildren, maybe even my great grandchildren (at my age) will learn about the real me as a person and not just "Mom" & "Grandma".

Gee, I'd have to say both. We both have vivid memories of each of our first cars and our first kiss with each other. I'm not sure about his very first kiss and honestly I don't remember mine. Hmmmm.

That's tough... probably first kiss. My first car was great... but... well, I don't know! :) Both. There. How's that ;)

Oh dear, it was the car (green Buick Skylark). I don't remember my first kiss! :) Great question!

Does kissing the little neighbor boy count as your first kiss? Can't say I really remember mine.

My first car was one the dealer told my dad he would buy for his daughter. YUCK! It was a mustard yellow Skamp with a black top. It was so ugly and we drove it for years even after we got married. It wouldn't die!

Wow, you gotta get up early to get a ray in before all the other good ones. Come on D, give us more details. Ha! Obviously it was the car as I had to really go back to remember my first kiss. The kiss was with a cute 2nd grader classmate of mine as we were madly in love and paraded around the school grounds arm in arm to show it. The car, it was a 1949 Oldsmobile 88 that my folks had given me after buying a newer one for themselves. I had it repainted in dark metallic green. It was so cool! DAD

I don't really remember either at the moment. Now you have me thinking. I will have to look back at pictures to find out what was my first car! I THINK a ford escort. I actually bought my first car with insurance money I got from the car accident I was in...the picture and story I posted. My first kiss....Why can't I remember that??? It must not have been that great!

While I will always remember my first kiss, I think about my first car the most. The first car I actually bought myself was a Ford Truck. I had always wanted a truck and finally had saved up enough. It was such a great memory. I had to trade in though to get something with better gas mileage. I miss my truck!

ok...first time I kissed a boy, I moved and was in Kindergarten. Then boy was so handsome and I knew that I had to kiss him. I chased him for a bit and finally caught him and planted a kiss on his cheek.

What is funny is that I discovered that this boy, lived 2 houses down from me!

Now the first real kiss? I remember that much more than the car, but I will not say too much!

I remember both well too!

My first car was an orange and brown Daytona Datsun that the neighbors gave me :)

The first kiss was STOLEN by my prom date on the dance floor - totally unromantic - fast song. UGH...

It would have to be my first car. My dad got me a Mazda GLC and was literally a tin can. I got sideswiped and the car was destroyed.

My first car was a 1989 white Ford T-Bird. I remember it well. I had it for 2 years, than I totalled it.

As for my first kiss, I dont rememeber that as well as my first almost kiss.

I was in love with the guy across the street and had been for years. One night when we were 16 he came over and we were sitting on my drive-way looking at the stars just like we had done since we were kids. He asked me, out of the blue, if I would be offended if he kissed me!! I giggled, fell backwards and covered my face. He pushed my hands out of the way and just as he was leaning in to kiss me, I see bright lights and here my dad say "Young lady, dont you think it is time to go inside?" He was a police officer and had come down to our street for his usual drive-by and happened to come around the corner just as I was getting ready to have my FIRST kiss. Talk about an embarrasing moment! I never did get to kiss my first love. That one experienced freaked him out enough to never attempt to kiss me again.

My first kiss? Did that really happen?

My first car was a Mercury Lynx. I named him Burt and his theme song was "Doing the Locomotion."

Yes, he even danced. Unlike the guy from my first kiss....

I sure remember your first car and still have a picture of you standing by it.

Wish I had a picture of your first kiss!! Maybe I don't.

thankfully, my first car is more vivid in my mind than the kiss. I remember enough to know it's something better left alone.
