aloha friday

Today, I thought I'd play along with Kailani's, of An Island Life, Aloha Friday. Each participant posts a simple question. You don't need to participate in Aloha Friday to answer my (or any) question(s).

How do you celebrate Valentine's Day?

I look forward to everyone's answers on this one because Don and I really don't do anything big for Valentine's Day. Our anniversary was just a couple of weeks ago so I think that's our big romantic day. I have usually given something to my kids each year - something small just to remind them how much I love them and that they're my valentine.

Here's something else I found over at Kailani's. Remember when you were a kid in grade school and you made the little bags each year for your fellow classmates to deposit their little store bought valentines? Remember going to the store and picking out which valentines you wanted to pass out and then writing out each one -picking who got which design. Or maybe you made your own valentines. Those were special, too.

Well, here is a virtual valentines bag. I think it would be fun if everyone in the blogosphere had one on their site and we all could stop by and drop our valentine in. So, I'm going to have one here on my sidebar until Valentine's Day.

I may not receive any valentines (that would be really sad) but I'll do it anyways. You don't have to sign up for anything to leave me a message. Just pick annonymous but then include your name in the message. And if you put one of the virtual valentine bags on your blog, please let me know and I'll drop a special one in for you.

Oh... and the site won't allow you to read your valentines until February 14th. Won't that be fun to read all your valentines in one sitting. Just like when you were a kid :) Let's spread the LOVE.

What a sweet idea! It's like grade school in the blog community.

You always find the neatest things, Diana. Now where do we get the Valentines????

Do you remember the big decorated box that the teacher would make and you'd put your individual Valentines in the big box and then they'd be passed out on Valentines day, along with cupcakes or cookie. Maybe this was just my generation. It was a BIG thing for the teachers to kind of try and out do each other on their Valentine box.

We don't celebrate big for Valentines but this year I have just finished changing out the table around a Valentine theme and plan to buy rib eyes and fix my hubby a wonderful dinner.

Of course we always got for the kids when they were little.

Clever idea! I will do it too.

I especially remember you and your sister getting those little valentines ready, and talking about who you were giving them to. You would come home from school and show me all the valentines you received.

I like giving little gifts to some of my special friends and family for Valentine Day.

One year I cross stitched a red valentine heart on heavy white punched paper, attached them to red paper and sent them to a few as a spcial gift.

And, of course, I love getting valentines.

The hubs and I don't have any plans, not even exchanging cards (I'm okay with that! I would rather save our money and buy something electronic, lol, I'm a die-hard geek).

However, I just bought the boys one of those huge Reese's peanut butter hearts. I plan on writing something mushy on the top with a pen so they'll get embarrassed when they pull it out at school on Thursday. hehe Bad mommy!

We don't do anything special. Maybe exchange cards, but not gifts. We're pretty simple when it comes to things like that.

I've got my virtual valentine box up on my blog. What a great idea!

I tried to send you a valentie, but couldn't figure it out. OK. Here goes. "A friend is someone who likes you." I like you. Be my valentine. Love, Nancy

How sweet. Tried to sign up, but kept giving me an error. Could be me - you know my tech challenges. ;)

We do not have anything planned for the kids, yet. Our little girls would be very disappointed if they do not get something, as this is such a foo foo holiday!

Marvin and I are going to the Springs on the 16th or 17th to see the movie You & Me, Us, Forever. I've been planning this ever since I saw the first promo for it. Not sure if we'll take the kids or have a date. I think a date would be good.

It's usually just take-out from my favorite restaurant. The main thing is that I don't want to cook!

This is my first year celebrating Valentine's Day with my husband. We will celebrate our first wedding anniversary a few weeks later! Ah, newlyweds! He is making dinner, Cajun Chicken, his signature dish! I'll make a chocolate dessert! :) There will be candles and flowers (I hope) and chocolates and music...it will be WONDERFUL!

No real plans, I have a interview that day, then home to be with the kids and make a meal and decorate the table is probably all.

I like the idea of Valentine cards...

I always make Bill a card...one year I cut out hearts for every day we had been married.

Another time I bought a dictionary(paperback) and gave him clues to wordsearch a love note...For example on page 125 fifth word...

I like to do this with him. The kids and I make cupcakes, and we have a standard dinner. We usually hang up cut out hearts but in the move...well, this year we didn't.

By the way this year, I am going to write 20 paragraphs to Bill about the 20 years we have shared on Valentines day...

Sorry to run on,
Jen

How do you find these things? I never get valentines anymore besides my hubby and mommy. I love this idea!

My husband and I don't do anything. Kind of sad. I am the least romantic person you will probably ever find so it's OK with me. It probably bothers him more! We DO celebrate our anniversary though. I will get the kids each a little treat and we have had lots of fun over the last few days doing their Valentines that they take to school.

We are lame. We don't do anything for Valentines. I would like to change that this year... I'm going to make sugar cookies for everyone - big ones! :) Hopefully they will like it. If not, oh well! We'll try again next year!
