I think I've already mentioned how much I love the Olympics. I really do. Whether it's Winter or Summer, I enjoy watching the show of athleticism and competitiveness. I like learning about the different sports, about the countries, and especially hearing the personal stories of the athletes. I love feeling American pride while watching our athletes represent our country in such a fine manner. Heck, I even like the commercials. It's been a wonderful two weeks of all of this, and I'm sad to see it end.
As I reflect on these winter games, I realize there's another thing I enjoy about the Olympic event, and that's the sportsmanship of not just the athletes, but the countries themselves. It's a thing of beauty to watch the people of this world getting along with each other, even encouraging and lending support to each other. For two weeks, it feels like the world is a little smaller and much more friendlier.
It reminds me of Christmastime. For a short period of time each year, the world is a rosier place where people want to share their Christmas spirit with friends and strangers alike. But by January 1st, that Christmas good will has pretty well died out and becomes a mere memory. It's the same for the Olympic spirit. It's time is limited.
I'm guessing that most of us are looking forward to moving on from the late nights of non-stop Olympic coverage and on to our normal sleep patterns, but I, personally, am going to miss watching and feeling that Olympic spirit. And unlike Christmas, which comes around every year, we're going to have to wait two years before the Olympic flame is lit again. But when it is lit, it will burn brightly, and once again, we can bask in it's glow.

Well said. One of my many favorite parts is listening to other countries' national anthems. Last night was such a treat -- seeing the Canadians sing theirs, then the Russians. It just brings a lump to my throat.
I'm thinking the world would be a much better place if the Olympics were an annual event....
Me too! I so enjoyed watching them! I like the winter games best! And I was sad when both the women's and men's hockey team didn't win Gold but VERY PROUD OF THEM to win Silver! YAY! USA!
:) Karen
I agree with you. The way we all come together is beautiful and the respect we all have for each other is how it should always be. Yes, I hope I can sleep again, I just haven't been sleeping well since they started. I go to bed all pumped up at midnight and can't fall asleep! It was fun....
:-) so what was your favorite event?
I am really going to miss the Olympics! We really got into it this time, I don't remember that from the last Olympics. It was a fun thing to sit and watch with the kids too!
help!
hubby's gone offline till Easter...this means I have SOLE ACCESS/responsibility of the Netflix account.
I don't like things with a lot of suspense...hated 6th sense and others like it...mostly I like drama/comedy/romance...but I have no idea what's out there because I don't see commercials or trailers. So, you got about 10 movies you'd like to recommend?
Funny, Diana, my daughter and I were just saying last night how much we miss the Olympics. I agree with everything you said, even what you said about the commercials! And we love all the personal stories too and it never fails that are hearts are gripped about someone or something. But two years will go by before you know it.
Me too. Being from Vancouver and being very actively involved in the participation I find myself really REALLY missing them badly. I've already orders my DVD set so I can relive them over and over :)
