facebook

If you left a comment to yesterday's post, thank you. My post wasn't really directed at anyone. It truly was just wonderings and I knew other bloggers were wondering some of the same things. I definitely understand the busyness of summer. I know that's been part of my problem.

I had not thought about Facebook as a possible reason for the waning blogosphere, but it makes a lot of sense. I'm sure that many women blog to connect with others and Facebook is a great place to achieve that. Originally, Facebook was only for college students. It was designed strictly for that group. Then they opened it up and the High School age (if not younger) and young adults signed up. I was on, too, because I worked with the youth and like I said, it's a great way to connect with others.

But there weren't too many people over the age of 30 using this social networking site until a year or so ago, and then there was an explosion of people joining. My "friends" include: family, church friends, blogging friends, old classmates, old youth group students, current youth group students, and acquaintances of all kinds. I love and use Facebook as a wonderful tool to keep in touch with all these people. Needless to say, I spend a fair amount of time logged in.

So I can see where some bloggers have switched their priorities and use Facebook to connect with others. Plus, they have all those quizzes, surveys, fan sites, and games, not to mention the status updates. You could spend all day on the site, and I know some people who do. Don't worry... if you think I'm talking about you, I'm not. Those people don't read my blog =)

Even though I use Facebook and enjoy my time there, I will continue my blogging. For me, connecting with others is a bonus to blogging. I truly enjoy the relationships that form here in bloggyland, but my number one purpose to blogging is that I have an ongoing record of my life, my thoughts, and my feelings. Facebook doesn't come close to offering me that.

And don't even get me started on the subject of Twitter.

Hmmm... I didn't think about FaceBook. That's definitely a time suck in and of itself.

Yeah, good ol' facebook.

I still like having my blog b/c my parents aren't on facebook and there is a different level of connecting with others through blogging that you don't get with fb.

I want my blog as a record too - I wish I was able to write my posts as letters to myself instead of letters to those reading - does that make sense? Someday, I'd like to blurb some of my blog - it's been a great scrapbook of these last 2 1/2 years!

Take it from a guy who was talked into Facebook and found it overwhelming with a certain sense of guilt for not keeping up with all that came at me. I dropped it and couldn't be happier. I much rather read blogs and comment as appropriate. Stay with the blog, Diana. You do a great job with it!

Blogs and facebook can be similar, yet are very different as well. I facebook with those I know, but I follow blogs that interest me, which goes beyond the people I have come to know in real life. But I love to connect with others on a particular topic, which blogging is better for :D

I need to look at my blog as more of a record... perhaps I'd be a little more motivated. I have been spending some time on Facebook, but usually what happens is that I get on and then end up having to walk away from the computer for awhile. Today has been a little different. :)

Lol, yeah I guess FB can be pretty addictive. Personally, I check into my account once every few weeks because I've received a message or something, but I'm not really that into it these days. It's blogs like this that I can come to on the rare occasion that I'm blog hopping and get to know a person rather than find out who they are based on quizzes and the other garbage on FB. Like I said before, keep writing here. As you please, when you please.

I joined Facebook but really don't use it very often. It just gets so overwhelming sometimes.

I would like to get involved with Facebook a little more -- and I am finding that people within my community who don't blog, have Facebook, and they are my age. So, I need to start with making THEM my friend. But, par to course, when something is new to me, I often procrastinate because its unfamiliar. Maybe Ethan could give me a crash course in Facebooking. Whenever I ask him what he's doing, his response is always "Facebooking". So I probably should get a little more up to speed on it.
