bbq and firecrackers

...

This week's Aloha Friday question is...

What are your plans for Independence Day?

I wish I had some big plans to report about but I don't. We've been invited to some friend's home for a BBQ dinner and then to watch local fireworks from their backyard. So we might do that. We thought about trying to get tickets to the Rockies game and watch their fireworks show after the game. We're pretty sure the game is sold out and if we wanted tickets, we'd have to go down to the stadium and try to buy tickets from someone on the street. Or we're thinking about taking sandwiches early to a local park and hanging out until the biggest fireworks display in Colorado starts.

We just can't decide but will some time today. All of the above options concern the evening hours, which means we have all the hours of the day free. Should we try to find something to do while the sun still shines? We could go to the pool. Or maybe go for a hike. Just don't know yet.

And we may have a spoiler for the day and/or evening. Our weather pattern shows that we can expect thunder storms. We've been in this pattern for a while now and we've had some pretty severe storms. I can't imagine firework shows being canceled because of weather, but it could happen. We may have lightning lighting up the night sky instead of the beautiful fireworks that I love so much.

Whatever we do, we will be celebrating our country's independence. And whatever you are doing, I hope your day is full of fun and celebration.

Breakfast at a friend's cabin and fireworks at the house. We usually do something different each year. This year it will be nice to just be home.

Celebrating independence day and the fact we are free. Of course we will be enjoying some fireworks. On of our favorite parts.

I hope you have a great day no matter what you decide to do. We too will be expecting thunderstorms but it looks like it will be most of Friday and very early in Saturday. So no threat of cancelling fireworks displays here. That's my favorite part too. We'll be going up north to spend time with our family and some friends too this year. It won't be our typical 4th of July but we will have fireworks, parades, food, family, and friends. It doesn't get much better than that!! Have a great one!!

They're calling for rain now which means a change of plans.

Sad to admit that we have no plans. Thanks to the weather being rainy for days on end we can not even bank on spending time outside tomorrow.

We seem to do something different every year. This year we'll be with my mom and dad and having a BBQ at one of their friends homes.

We usually BBQ but hubby is working this year so me and the kids will just hang in the pool.

Be sure to let us know what you decide!!

For the past as-many-as-I-can-remember years, we've gone to T's sister's for the 4th. I can remember taking Quintin when he was just 1 1/2 weeks old! She has a pool - so nothing beats water on a hot day and splashing with the cousins. Their town's fireworks display is put off right behind their house, on the other side of a corn field - but our oldest 2 don't like the sound so we'll probably leave early.

The past 3 or 4 years it's been a rainy day but this year the weather is in our favor!

What a fun day and so many ways to celebrate.

We plan to go to my cousin's house for a big family cook-out in the late afternoon. When it gets dark the 5 gradeschool age boys and their fathers will set off fireworks in the street.

I'm not sure who has the most fun, the boys or their fathers!

We're heading to a friend's house for a cookout. I hope we don't get rained out.

During the day, I'll be cleaning the house and cooking potato salad.

We live right above where the fireworks are shot off. We close off our street and have a big party all night long!
