i need your help

...

I am planning a trip to Washington DC for my daughter, Dani, and myself. I know there's plenty to do in the area but I don't want to miss anything that I "should" see. So my Aloha Friday question is:

If you've been to Washington DC....
What should I make sure to see?

If you haven't been to Washington DC....
What would you want to see?

Looks like we're going to be there mid May for 4-5 days. The one place we know we'll be visiting is the Holocaust museum as it is what the whole trip is planned around. I also want to visit some of the monuments, but I don't know how many there are and if we can get to them all in one day. Would we need more than one day for that or is there some not worth seeing. See... I need help. I'd appreciate any input you might have.

Thank you.

Be absolutely sure to visit the Library of Congress. It is the most beautiful building I have EVER seen and it is not a place you hear about visiting. We were fortunate to be told about it by a local police officer who was giving us directions. I am so thankful....as we had no idea about it and would have missed it.

The second must see for me is The Supreme Court.

Have fun!!!!!! And I hope you'll be praying as you walk those streets for what is happening to our great country.

I have not been since I was in 1st grade (that is dating this). I still have fond memories of going to the reflecting pools by the monuments. I also recall seeing everyone crying when we were at the Vietnam wall. I was so young and had no clue.

Places I want to go to see:
1 - Holocaust Museum (opened way after I was there)
2 - Smithsonian
3 - Whitehouse
4 - Capital Building

Have a fabulous time :)

Washington DC Spy Tour
Fascinated by the intricate world of espionage? Well indulge in the Washington DC Spy Tour to learn all about the devious underground goings on of this great city’s past and present, from intelligence triumphs to famous betrayals. The tour travels to 25 of the most notorious espionage sites in the last 65 years and includes real stories shared by former insiders, participation in an interactive mission and a trip to the International Spy Museum.

Some friends went there and the first thing they did was to take a bus tour. That way they had an over view of what they might want to go back and see.

They stayed at a Residence Inn near the White House which provided them a good base from which they could walk or catch local transportation.

They thought the Spy Museum was cool and the places MightyMom suggested.

We just went to DC in January and I would say one of the big highlights of the day was the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum - and it's free. Enjoy!!!

Since you're already going to the Holocaust museum, I'd suggest the Jefferson Memorial. It's pretty cool!

Hi! Remember me?? :)

One of the best ways to see the most monuments in the shortest period of time is to take a tour. We took a night tour and saw many of the monuments that way. It was neat seeing them at night. The hotels can set it up for you, and then you don't have to worry about finding them.

I can't help you at all. :(

I've been a couple of times. I can't say we had much of an agenda but we just made sure to spend a lot of time wandering around the monuments. I'm not even American and was so touched.

(I'm still alive!) I haven't been there since I was a kid, but I loved the Lincoln and Jefferson Memorials and the Iwo Jima. I think a bus tour is a great way to see as many monuments as possible-I think they're all worth it.

I've have been a few times and there is so much to see. The Smithsonian is awesome, Union Station is cool. The monuments, I doubt you'd be disappointed with any of them. I still have many things on my list to see: the zoo, Arlington National Cemetary, The White House...
Have a great trip!

I think you could spend a week in the Smithsonian alone, but if you can decide on an area of interest and focus on just that one section, I'm sure you'd enjoy that.

Oh Diana, How could I pick? You know I love DC and go regularly as I only live about 40 minutes by car.

The HOlocaust Museum will leave a somber note to the rest of your day, but it is so moving and amazing!!!! WELL WORTH your trip!

The Cherry Blossoms are gone. So sorry.

YOu can do the main monuments on the mall very easily in a day. YOu can walk from the capitol building to the Lincoln Monument in a easy amount of time. You'll pass the Washington Monument on the way - directly in between. If you want tot turn at the WAshington Monument, the White House is within walking distance to you right, then you can go back to the mall. Once you hit the Lincoln Momument, you HAVE to do the Vietnam Wall. There isn't a monument like it in the whole place. It is directly to the right of LIncoln if you are facing him. The Korea War Memorial is directly to the left if you are facing him.

Without preschoolers, you can hit all of the aforementioned in a day, easily, if not in a morning.

The American History Museum just reopened, so it is packed on the weekends. I LOVE Air and Space!!!! I also love the museum of Natural History, though it is overflowing with DArwin right now.

I have not done the Libary of Congress, but want to as per Susan's suggestion. My parents agree with her.

A metro ride to Georgetown - one of my favorite little towns - GREAT shopping and so fun!

OK...I have talked your ear off. Feel free to email me with any questions!
