Do you consider yourself an extrovert or an introvert?
The simplest way to define these two characteristics is that an extrovert is energized by spending time with people, usually a group of people, and an introvert is energized by spending time alone or in a one on one situation.
I would have to say that I'm an introvert. There are times I enjoy being with a group of people, but I don't find it energizing. In fact, I find it draining. I'd rather spend a quiet night at home.
But I am a relational person. I enjoy the relationships I have and I enjoy making new ones. You would think a youth worker would be more of an extrovert, and most probably are. I will admit, even though I could handle a large group, I was more comfortable with a smaller one. What I thrived on was the relationships I made with each kid. So even though doing youth ministry meant working with a group of highly energetic teenagers, I focused on one or two kids at a time. And that energized me.
Thank you to Kailani of An Island Life for hosting Aloha Friday each week.

#1 thing that drive hubby insane?
when he asks an either/or question and I say both!
:-)
I'm a little bit of both, it just depends on the situation!
I am an extrovert when I want to be!
I've always thought of myself as an extrovert because I love people and make friends easily. Based on your description I would be an introvert because I thrive in a one on one setting.
Susan
Definitely an extrovert.
Though, now that I'm a mother, I have come to really value my time alone - and how it recharges me.
Introvert. =)
Happy Aloha Friday!
I'm an introvert. I like what you said about being a relational person. I hadn't thought of it that way. I'd much rather spend time with one other person over a cup of coffee than in a large group. I enjoy groups, but find that it exhausts me to be with too many people at once and I look forward to my alone time to rest up.
Fun question.
An extrovert for sure...but all extroverts need time alone to recharge as well. But I definitely get the most energy when with others!
How much energy do you think I get with a 6 year old, a 4 year old and a 2 year old??? Only enough to last me 'til bedtime! HAHA
In my twenties & thirties I was an extrovert but now in my forties I've become on introvert. Maybe it's living in the boondocks?
no question i'm an introvert. (kind of strange since i'm a litigator) but once you get to know me and i'm comfortable with you, there's no shutting me up.
extrovert for sure!!
LOVE being around people
Linda
Student teaching helped me to come WAY out of my shell. Through the years I have become much more extroverted.
Introvert for sure. I love my solitude.
Extreme introvert.
extrovert. even though i find people extremely annoying:0)
Boy, are you a chip off the old bloc! You can blame it on me, hon.
A little bit of both.
Even though I like being around other people...I really need my alone time at home.
Both.. depends on who I am around. If family then definitely and extrovert. lol But normally I like to be quieter.. stay home and blog lol
is there a third choice like a person who is good at both? That would be me
Definately an introvert. I do like one on one time with a friend but not groups of people. I am even a bit of an introvert online...maybe that's why facebook isn't my favorite!
Oh my, I am MOST definitely an introvert. I enjoy group situations once in awhile, but I definitely don't flourish in them. Being alone though, having time to myself, silence, peace, calm? I actually get excited butterflies. Like when the girls have gone down and I'm about to step into a hot bath...ahhhhh!
Total introvert here :)
DEFINITELY an extrovert. However, part of the fascination behind my split personality is I love to be alone--going on trips, traveling, etc.
I'm an introvert who plays "extrovert" once in a while.
Introvert...my whole life. I think that a good youth ministry benefits from both the extrovert and the introvert. Somebody needs to be working in the background. I think that the introvert will see things that others may miss.
I'm an extrovert. Too many nights at home are truly depressing to me.

For me it depends on the situation. If I'm around friends then I'm definitely an extrovert.
Is it possible for a person to swing back and forth between the two? :)
Somedays I just want to be alone. I crave the silence. Other days I can't wait to get together with friends to laugh and talk.
