i'm curious

...

The Oscar nominations were announced today. Since I am a big movie goer, I always look forward to the Academy Awards ceremony, hopefully having seen many of the movies. This year, I've only seen one of the five movies nominated for best picture, but I plan to see one or two more before they pass out the awards on February 22nd.

Here are the movies that have been nominated for best picture:

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Frost/Nixon
Milk
The Reader
Slumdog Millionaire

My Aloha Friday question is actually a series of questions. They are:

How many of these movies have you seen?
Are you planning to see any of these before awards night?
Which one(s) would you like to see?
Is there a movie that you think should have been nominated?

The only movie I've seen thus far is The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and I can see why it's up for this award, although I don't think it will win. I would really like to see Milk and Slumdog Millionaire so I'll do my best to accomplish that.

There are so many good and well made movies out and I wouldn't presume to know which ones are better than others. I'm sure it's hard to pick only five out of so many. But I've heard a few critics say that they were surprised The Dark Knight or The Wrestler weren't in that top five. From a content value, I think Gran Torino was a great movie and could have been included.

I haven't seen any but wouldlike to see the Nixon one and the Brad Pitt one. Unless they come out on vidoe soon, there is not a chance!

I haven't seen any of them. Benjamin Button is on my list but as for the rest of them? I avoid rated R movies so that knocks out most of them!

I have not seen any of the movies that were nominated for best picture. I rarely see movies in the theater since I had my boys. I would like to see The Curious Case of Benjamin Button since it looks really interesting to me.

I saw Benjamin Button and loved it. I'm glad it was nominate, but like you, I don't think it will win. I'd like to see The Reader because I'm a big fan of Kate Winslet.

I have not seen any of them. We almost always only attend open captioned movies, so our deaf daughter can also attend. Unfortunately, where we live, those are few and far between.

I would really like to see Slumdog Millionaire. I have a friend who raved about it.

I haven't seen any of them... and honestly? I really don't think I will see any of them. Just not my cup of tea, I guess :)

I've only seen Benjamin Button and I doubt I'll see any more of them. I'm fine with the nominations as they stand.

I've been trying to get to the movies for weeks!

This weekend I,hopefully, plan to see Benjamin Button, Slumdog and The Reader. If not over the weekend, definitley next week.

Seeing them on the big screen is so much more powerful.

I will probably wait and see Milk on DVD

Great minds think alike--my Aloha Friday is about the nominations too =).

I haven't seen any, but I would like to see Slumdog Millionaire the most. DH & I used to see all the nominated movies once they were announced, but now that we have kids, we hardly ever go to the movies =)

I have not seen any of them. I have only heard of Benjamin Button and I doubt I go see any of them.

I did see the Dark Knight and it should have been in there because Heath Ledger was fantastic as a joker and made that movie great.

I haven't seen any of these movies including Dark Knight. With small kids, the only ones I've seen are HSM3, Bolt, Madagascar . . . :-)

no, no and I think Dark night was very good, but I can only watch movies after the kids go to bed, so DVD is the only way for me

I am so out of the loop when it comes to movies! I have only heard of ONE of these movies...The Benjamin Button one. And honestly I have no desire to see it. If I did see it I think I would like it, I'm just not much of a movie person I guess. I used to think it was because we had three small kids. Now the kids are getting a little older. It's funny I thought we would be more able to do things like go to movies as they got older. Instead I spend my time inside sweaty, smelly gyms or outsied freezing my behind off watching the kids sports :) I would pass up any movie for that!!!

I'm out of the loop too! Haven't seen any of them, but have also heard the Benjamin Button is good.

I haven't seen any of those movies, and I don't know if I will. I'm usually too tired to watch anything other than Food Network or HGTV after my son goes to bed.

I haven't seen any of them...but I did read The Reader!

mmmmmmmmm

these are movies?? shown in America?? now?? you're sure about that???

now see, the down side to not watching TV is that you don't get commercials....(which, funnily enough is also the GOOD THING) so I don't see trailers. Hubby's in charge of our Netflix so the movies I get to see are of his choosing unless I hear of something specific to request.

I will say we say a great movie last night. "The Greatest Game Ever Played"

I haven't seen ANY of these movies!! And, really, none of them were on my list of 'must-sees.' Wow! I must be out of the loop!

I haven't really seen a stand-out movie all this year. I kind of really liked "The Secret Life of Bees." But, I don't really think it was award material!

Thanks for stopping by ADaywithJake! And, come back for our Meme Giveaway!

Great blog, by the way! Hope you don't mind if I stop by more often!

Wish I could join in, but I just don't see movies. I'm thinking that after we move, I might try NetFlix. Then I can choose the ones I think I will like and watch them at my leisure. Our situation here is not conducive to that. I may even start watching a little TV. HGTV and some of the arts and history, BBC productions -- all those really interest me.

I have not seen any of those movies.

I would like to see the Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

We'll probably end up watching them all sometime or another. We rent lots of movies.

Gotta say I haven't seen any either...probably because I have to wait for DVD. Are any of them on DVD yet?

I really liked Dark Knight - great one. Not sure it ranks as best picture thought.
