Well, today is the day. The day that I wish I could just skip over. I usually look forward to October 13th each and every year, but not this year. October 13th is my birthday and this year I turn 50.
50!
I'm not trying to sound sorry for myself. I'm just trying to be honest here. I consider myself a positive person and I'm not going to spend the day feeling down, but it's not a birthday I've been looking forward to. 50 just feels so old. 49 didn't and I'm sure 51 won't bother me as much.
I'm not sure what I'm going to do today but I've got a couple of ideas. I need to do something that says, "you're 50 and you're fabulous!" (thanks mom)
I thought of one way to lift my spirits... have a give-away. Giving gifts always makes me feel good, so one of you can be the lucky recipient of a special 50th birthday gift (you won't be disappointed). All you have to do is leave a comment here on this post telling me how you would or did spend your 50th birthday. I'll randomly pick one commenter Wednesday night and post the name along with how I did end up spending the day on Thursday.

I'd spend my 50th partying down with friends and family at some wild and crazy kareoke bar!!
:-)
And I'm sooooo jealous! Because I still have awhile to wait before I can officially join the Red Hat Society!! Oh I can't wait I can't wait I can't wait!!!!!

oh yeah, and through my intense green fog of painful jealousy.....I wish for you, dear friend, a fabulous and fantastic birthday today!!
Oh, and by the way, you should change your quote of the day to this poem:
Warning
When I am an old woman I shall wear purple
With a red hat which doesn't go, and doesn't suit me.
And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves
And satin sandals, and say we've no money for butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement when I'm tired
And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells
And run my stick along the public railings
And make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rain
And pick flowers in other people's gardens
And learn to spit.
You can wear terrible shirts and grow more fat
And eat three pounds of sausages at a go
Or only bread and pickle for a week
And hoard pens and pencils and beermats and things in boxes.
But now we must have clothes that keep us dry
And pay our rent and not swear in the street
And set a good example for the children.
We must have friends to dinner and read the papers.
But maybe I ought to practice a little now?
So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised
When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple.

This, by the way, is the inspiration for the RHS, which I sooooo long to join!!
And I forgot to say...
Congratulations on this, your new adventure!!!
(you do remember the Welcome to Wherever You Are song...right??)
So, how many comments will it take for me to WIN??
just wondering................................................
Happy Birthday Diana!!!
I'd love to spend the day with my family and possibly at the beach (since my bday is in July)
Wishing you a wonderful day with those you love!!!
Can't wait to hear about your day!
Happy, Happy, Happy Birthday - dear friend of mine! I hope whatever you do today, you feel spoiled and loved!
For my 50th, I'd go shopping. Sip a latte, pick out and buy a new shirt and a new necklace and earrings, and then I'd plan a date with my hubby in the near future when I could wear them!
Happy Birthday, again!
Happy Birthday!! You are fabulous! I celebrated my 50th last year. My husband took me to the Broadmoor for a weekend. It was my first time there and I felt like a queen. I have wonderful friends who took me to dinner to celebrate. My best friend's birthday is close to mine and we always celebrate together. She refused to celebrate this one. I think I had tons more fun:)
Welcome to the club, Diana, you're in good company here!
Happy Birthday Diana! 50 is FANTASTIC...
the women in my life who are now in their 50's are the most genuine, caring, passionate, loving and FUN women that i know.
when i am 50 i will have a 26, 25, 23, 21 & 19 year olds. WOW---maybe i'll have a grand-baby by then. i will spend my 50th birthday surrounded by my blessings, i hope.
ENJOY YOUR DAY!
Happy birthday! The 50s are fab, don't you know? (Or so I'm told by others who are already there -- I'm not far behind myself...)
Happy Birthday!!!
Hmm... how would I spend my 50th b-day? I would probably get some girlfriends together and then go to Disneyland ;)
Wait... does MightyMom get more entries? Because I can write multiple comments too ;)
Can't wait to hear what you decide to do today!
Happy Birthday, Diana!
JS will be in high school when I turn 50. Yeah, that's what I get for waiting so long to have a kid. Where was I???? Oh! I'd probably do what I did on my 40th birthday -- spend the day with my hubby and son. It's my favorite thing to do.
You're making lemonade out lemons -good for you and how like you to be on the positive side.
I plan to celebrate my big 7O this year by going to Disneyland and perhaps with my 35 year old male friend. I am still a kid at heart!
I hope to spend my 50th hanging out with my kids and my husband. I would love to go somewhere warm that has a beach. My birthday is in the middle of January and in SD that is about the coldest time of the year. Every year it's below zero. Just one year I'd like to spend my birthday in a swimming suit on a beach :) But only if my family was there with me, it wouldn't be any fun without them!
I hope whatever you ended up doing you had a great birthday!!
Wellllll...Mine has come and gone, but I did do something kind of different for my 50th. I told my children that from here on in, to celebrate my birthday, they could cook food for me, pay homage with gifts and make interesting conversation. No singing the happy birthday song any more. Because after 50, there would be little cause for "happy-ness".
Hey, Diana, look for the PhotoPlus free download online. If you like it you can upgrade for little cost. There are whole Flickr groups devoted to PhotoPlus and the free download is a great way to get started. As of now, that is all I have. I don't feel as if I've even scratched the surface of all it will do.
Happy birthday, my dear.
Love,
Nancy
Happy Birthday! 50 is special, so you should get 50 gifts. How does that sound? Works for me. Remind me of that when it's my birthday, ok?
I hope you have a wonderful day no matter how you decide to celebrate.

HAPPY 50TH BIRTHDAY!!!
I would spend it doing something totally outrageous. Book a skydiving day or go camping without a tent (if you haven't done that in some time-and if it is warm), go to the spa (if that is something you have never done). Do something new! Each year is a new one, so make this one extra fun and exciting by doing something you have never, or have not in awhile, done before.

Happy Birthday, Diana. You are still young! The fifties are great. But I do remember that 5-0 being difficult when it came, but for the life of me I can't remember what I did. I know there was no party, that's for sure.
Hope you had a great day! You're right. Fifty-one wasn't as hard to swallow. lol
