What was your first car?
My first car was a red 1971 Chevy Nova. I bought it in 1976 after I saw it in an apartment's parking stall with a 'FOR SALE' in the window. I had just got my driver's license and I was in the market to buy a car... but I didn't have much money. The price tag on this beauty was $500.
All the details are a little vague (hey, it was over 30 years ago!) but I had a job and I had money saved. My mom may have helped me with the promise that I would repay anything I borrowed, but in the end, I came up with the whopping amount of $500. I bought it and felt the thrill of owning my own car.
But, you get what you pay for and the car kept breaking down. After only a few months, it was decided that it was unfixable or that it would cost too much to fix. I said good bye to my beloved Nova and hello to a brand new mustard colored Datsun B210, which my mom co-signed for. I liked having a new car but I didn't like having monthly car payments. Some where I heard a little voice say, "Welcome to reality and the world of responsibility."
Aloha Friday can be found over at An Island Life.
That's too funny. I drove a nova & a B210! The years were different though.
ReplyDeleteThe first car that I bought was a '78 Honda accord. I loved that car but ended up trading up to a '82 toyota corolla. Both were fantastic cars.
My first car was a 1972 Toyota Celica. It was 1 year older than me and looked so outdated. I didn't care... I finally had a car!

ReplyDeleteGreat car!! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure what to count as my "first car." I never got one when I was at home, I drove my mom's car a lot. The first car I could say was mine, was actually T's first car. He bought a truck so I could drive his car. I will not make my children's future spouse give them a car - they will have a car while at home. Just thinking about it still frustrates me!! LOL
Anyway, that car was a red Acura Integra...the same one I totaled.
The first car, I got to pick, was a Toyota Camry sedan that replaced the Integra.
A 1982 Dodge Omni.
ReplyDeleteMy first car was a 1994 Chevrolet Corsica. I got it a couple of months after I turned 16. An insurance company used it as a company car and then sold it for $2500. It only had 55,000 miles on it when I got it in 99.
ReplyDeleteI didn't actually own a car until my hubby and I bought one while we lived in St. Thomas. We brought it over here to Dominica with us and that's what we are driving. It's a 2002 Ford Escape. It's actually my dream car because I used to love driving my dad's big SUV but wanted a smaller type SUV and now we have one. I have God to thank for many of my fulfilled dreams.
ReplyDelete1976 Ford LTD
ReplyDeleteMine was a 98 Saturn something LOL it was so pretty and gold.
ReplyDeleteI had a 96 Mitsubishi Mirage! I loved that car and it kept going forever! Thanks for the memory
ReplyDeleteI forget the year, but it was an ugly white Geo-Metro. Looked like an M&M on wheels.
ReplyDeleteWell, keep in mind that I'm an over 50 Diva Chic mom - ha! When we were in high school - most people had to use their parents car if you didn't have the money to buy your own. My dad had several old antique cars that he fixed up for us - the one I got to drive was 1932 or 36 white roadster - it was a hoot, as well as being an antique! AND, I had to go to the gas station to fill up with brake fluid, because that's how the brakes worked - my friends made so much fun of me - but they loved riding in it too!
ReplyDeleteA Mazda GLC. It was a tin can! LOL!
ReplyDeleteI had an old Nissan Sentra. I loved that car!!!
ReplyDeleteMy first car was a 1979 Ford LTD. It was my grandparents car, and they could no longer drive.
