free money

Kailani hosts Aloha Friday each and every Friday. Join in the fun by posing your own question and leaving your link over at her place.

My question this week has to do with the Economic Stimulus Tax Rebates that are being handed out in the next week or so. The government wants us to go out and spend the money on consumer goods in order to stimulate the economy.

My question is:
What are you going to do with your rebate money?

Not everyone is receiving a rebate. If you fall into this category, just answer the question, what would you do with the money?

For me, I think I would use most of it to pay off some debt. Not that we have a lot of debt but I think that would be more important than going out and buying something big. Maybe it's because we really don't need anything "big" right now. But even if we did, I'm thinking it makes more sense to use it to lower our debt or help pay for two kids in college. Sorry Uncle Sam.

  1. Weird! Being Canadian, I'm a little jealous of this...but also a little weirded out by the fact that some of you are receiving money. From the government. Specifically to buy stuff and hopefully stimulate the economy?

I'm with you, Diana. If I were receiving the money, I would put it towards our debt load or save it.

I say that, but I'd probably go clothes shopping for the girls and I :D

  2. Assuming I have rebate money, I would probably use it to buy some groceries.

  3. Use it to pay down on house, save it or pave driveway - if we'd go all hogwild with it! ;-)

  4. We're putting ours to pay of some debt too. I SO wish we could put it in savings though for a rainy day! I've got my Aloha Friday up over on my Spice World blog at http://spiceworld.us Happy Friday!

  6. Ours has already went towards paying off a debt.

  7. Huckdoll - it is odd that the gov't is giving us this rebate. Some Americans think so too.

As for us, we are using to make some small improvements to our home. Mainly, we will tint the windows to lower our AC bill.

  8. We haven't talked about what we're doing with the money yet? I want it to go towards new carpet for the house, and I have no clue what page hubby is on.

  10. If we don't use it toward paying off debt we will use it to help pay for our 25th anniv trip to Sedona AZ in July!

  13. I wish we could stimulate the economy more, but we will be paying off debt. We might pull a little out to get a new Wii game... but that's about it :)

  16. We are using ours toward debt as well. I tend to think that this helps the economy as well since so many credit card companies and mortgage companies are having financial trouble due to defaulted loans.

  17. If we didn't have to pay down our debt, my husband and I want to take a trip to Vegas.

  18. Paying off debt. We have just a couple of little things that we can get out of our hair with it. Then maybe we will have more to spend to stimulate the economy. Alternately, If prices keep driving uphill, we may have to use it to fill the pantry. Thanks for your comment today. You're making me feel like maybe I've had too much time on my hands. In Alaska, there is a winter syndrome that causes some people to excercise their creativity in those months when you are kind of house bound. The basketry I learned when I was living in a small "bush" community.

  20. It's definitely going towards the bills. Not too exciting.

  21. I'm pretty sure all of it will be spent on gas this year. Gotta love that!

  22. Our "Bush Bucks" will most likely go towards paying down our debt. Who knows, I may really feel that urge to splurge and buy a tank of gasoline!

Seriously, I am thanful for the tax rebate, but I don't see how it's going to boost the economy when the majority of goods for sale here are manufactured elsewhere.

  23. I would surprise my husband and plan a get away weekend for the two of us!

  24. Our "free money" is going right back out the door to pay some of my medical bills....That sounds like no fun at all....
    Oh well...
    Love your blog!
